The Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider<\/strong> is an American strategic stealth bomber<\/strong> currently under development for the United States Air Force (USAF)<\/strong>. Designed as part of the Long Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B)<\/strong> program, the B-21 is intended to serve as the backbone of the Air Force\u2019s future bomber fleet<\/strong>, complementing and eventually replacing the B-1B Lancer and the B-2 Spirit.<\/p>

The bomber was officially named \u201cRaider\u201d<\/strong> in September 2016 in honor of the Doolittle Raiders<\/strong>, a group of 80 U.S. Army Air Forces personnel who carried out the first air raid on Japan in World War II. The name reflects the spirit of innovation, risk, and determination embodied by the original mission.<\/p>

Status<\/strong><\/h3>

The B-21 Raider was publicly unveiled on December 2, 2022<\/strong> at Northrop Grumman\u2019s facility in Palmdale, California. The first flight is expected sometime in 2025<\/strong>, with initial operational capability targeted for the late 2020s<\/strong>.
